Cleansing Detox Diet: Pros and Cons
A cleansing detox diet has becoming quite popular. The diet’s premise is that our bodies store toxins from food preservatives, pesticides and our body’s own natural waste, and that, by combining the right foods or eliminating certain foods, we can eliminate these toxins from our bodies. Does a cleansing detox diet work? Here are some pros and cons.
Pros:
- You can cleanse your palate. when you don’t eat any processed foods for several days or weeks, you lose your taste for them. You’ll probably find that Twinkies and fast food hamburgers are no longer appealing.
- You can clean out some toxins. Although there is no scientific proof that this occurs, many people believe that toxins are indeed cleaned out of your body when you go on a cleansing diet. If this does occur, it can help your overall health.
- You can achieve temporary weight loss. The weight loss will vary by type of diet and duration; a two-day fast won’t result in as much weight loss as you might imagine. If you can incorporate very healthy eating habits after your cleansing diet is complete, then you may be able to maintain the weight loss. However, the majority of weight loss will probably not be permanent.
- You can feel more energetic. The majority of people who are fans of cleansing detox diets will tell you that one of the major benefits of a cleansing diet is the increase in energy they feel. This increase in energy can occur both during the diet and after the diet is completed.
Cons:
- You can experience Unpleasant symptoms. There are a number of unpleasant side effects people feel when on a cleansing diet. You may suffer from fatigue, insomnia, feelingweak, headaches, digestive distress, feeling dizzy, or feeling irritable. These side effects are only temporary and you’ll likely feel much better after.
- Your weight loss will only be temporary. As soon as your diet ends, you’ll probably put the weight back on. The goal of cleansing diets is not to lose weight but to eliminate toxins.
- It’s difficult to do a cleansing detox diet correctly. You should do a lot of research on your chosen diet and see a doctor before undertaking any extreme changes in your diet.
Cleansing detox diets can be a good thing if they’re handled correctly and you’re prepared for all of the potential side effects. Take the time to do the research, and visit your doctor before you make your decision.
